Our Strings Program

S.O.U.N.D.S. Strings Program: Master the Art of Strings

The S.O.U.N.D.S. Strings Program offers a well-rounded and individualized approach to string instruction, welcoming students of all ages and abilities to explore the joy of music. Under the expert guidance of Melody King, a passionate and experienced educator with over 30 years in the field, students receive comprehensive training in violin, viola, cello, or bass. Melody’s dedication and expertise create an environment where students thrive, no matter their starting level.

When students begin their journey, the focus is on building a strong foundation in posture, technique, and the mechanics of their chosen instrument. Through engaging lessons, they’ll learn to read music notation, understand rhythm, and grasp essential music theory concepts. Using a carefully selected method book, beginners develop the skills needed to master their instrument. As they progress, students dive into the renowned “Suzuki” repertoire, learning to play and perform with confidence.

Each week, students benefit from 1.5 hours of instruction, including both private lessons tailored to their unique needs and group lessons that foster collaboration and growth among peers. Twice a year, students have the exciting opportunity to showcase their progress in our Fall and Spring concerts. Additionally, every May, they participate in the Indiana Arts Festival, where they earn valuable feedback from string professionals and celebrate their achievements with ribbons and gold trophy cups.

Led by Melody King—a classically trained musician who has performed with prestigious ensembles such as the Butler Symphony Orchestra and the Carmel Symphony Orchestra—the program is deeply rooted in excellence and compassion. Melody’s experience as a private instructor, orchestra director, and early childhood music educator ensures every student receives personalized instruction in a nurturing environment.

The S.O.U.N.D.S. Strings Program goes beyond teaching music; it builds confidence, fosters creativity, and inspires a lifelong love for the arts. Whether you’re just beginning your musical journey or refining your skills, this program will guide you every step of the way. Join us and experience the transformative power of music!
