Meet Our Instructors

Melody King

Melody has been a music teacher for over 30 years. Having been classically trained on violin, viola, cello, and bass, she earned a bachelor’s degree with a special interest in music education from Butler University. Melody has studied with world-renowned artists such as Larry Shapiro, Csaba Erdélyi, David Murry, and Bill Grub, as well as Lisa and Davis Brooks. Melody performed with the Butler Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Stanley DeRusha and with the Carmel Symphony Orchestra under the baton of David Bowden.

Through the teaching of her private string students and having been an orchestra director, 3rd and 4th grade general music teacher and Music Together center director and teacher, Melody gained a full joy of music education for all ages. In addition to teaching she has also been a member of MENC, IMEA, AOSA, and ASTA. Melody is excited and passionate about sharing her love for music and the arts with Owen County.

Ivan Maceda

Born in Mexico City, Ivan Maceda earned his Summa Cum Laude degree in guitar performance from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, where he studied under Professor Fernando Cruz Vázquez. He has performed across Mexico and the United States, appearing in prestigious venues such as the Palacio de Bellas Artes and Sala Carlos Chávez, and as a soloist with numerous orchestras.

A champion of contemporary works, Ivan has premiered compositions by leading Mexican composers and performed iconic pieces such as Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez. He has studied with world-renowned guitarists, including Carlos Bonell and Rémi Boucher, and earned a Master of Music in Performance from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music under the guidance of Ernesto Bitetti.

Andrew Lunsford

Praised for his “jaw-dropping voice” and featured by CNN, NBC, ABC, and FOX, Andrew Lunsford has performed on some of the world’s most renowned stages, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and Lincoln Center. Trained at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music under soprano Carol Vaness, his operatic roles range from Gounod’s Faust to Mozart’s The Magic Flute. Alongside his international performing career, Andrew is passionate about teaching. His instruction blends vocal science with artistry, guiding students in classical, musical theater, and contemporary styles while helping them develop healthy, confident, and expressive voices.

Jenni Conrad

Jenni Conrad is a dedicated trumpet performer and educator based in Bloomington, IN. She earned her Master of Music in Trumpet Performance Summa Cum Laude from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and her Bachelor’s degree in Instrumental Music Education Summa Cum Laude from Mississippi State University.

An experienced ensemble musician and passionate teacher, Jenni has worked with students from K – 12 and brings strong leadership, theory knowledge, and brass pedagogy to her instruction. She is committed to helping students build confidence, technical skill, and a lifelong love of music.

Tom Petry

Tom Petry is an experienced guitar instructor and a licensed teacher. He works well with students of all age groups and skill levels. He has played guitar for 15 years and is proficient in many different genres.

Tom has a student-centered approach to teaching guitar that makes each lesson unique, engaging, and fun!

Adrian Martin

Adrian Martin started with S.O.U.N.D.S. in 2022 to teach private piano and voice lessons in addition to our elementary choral ensemble. Over the past 10 years, she has been an accompanist and taught as a private teacher and choral director in various music academies and schools in Central Indiana, including Cloverdale Community Schools. In addition to teaching voice, piano, and choral ensembles, Adrian has enjoyed teaching early childhood music, movement programs, and fold dancing. She received her degree in Music Education from Heritage Baptist College in 2017 and another degree in Educational Studies from Maranatha Baptist University in 2020. Adrian and her husband, Roger, live in Owen County and have two daughters, Evangeline and Layla.

James LaVelle

James LaVelle is a pianist from the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York… after beginning musical studies at an early age he went on to earn a Bachelor’s in Piano Performance from Eastern Michigan University as well as a Master’s in Piano Performance at the Jacob’s School at Indiana University with an eclectic repertoire stretching from Bach to Rachmaninoff.

A devout Bloomingtonian, James has been active in teaching and performance in the Bloomington/Nashville area for the last 15 year
