S.O.U.N.D.S. Classical Guitar Program: Master the Art of Guitar
The SOUNDS Classical Guitar Program offers a personalized and comprehensive approach to guitar instruction, welcoming students of all ages and skill levels to explore the rich tradition and beauty of classical guitar. Under the expert guidance of internationally acclaimed guitarist Ivan Maceda, an award-winning performer with a career spanning Mexico, the United States, and prestigious concert halls worldwide, students receive world-class instruction rooted in technical excellence and artistic expression.
When students begin their journey, the focus is on building a solid foundation in posture, finger technique, tone production, and the mechanics of the instrument. Lessons also cover music notation, rhythm, and essential music theory concepts. Using a thoughtfully selected method book and repertoire, beginners gain the skills needed to perform their first pieces confidently. As they progress, students explore a wide range of works from classical masterpieces to contemporary compositions, with opportunities to study and perform both solo and ensemble literature.
Each week, students benefit from 1.5 hours of instruction, including individualized private lessons and group sessions that encourage collaboration, creativity, and peer learning. Twice a year, they will have the opportunity to perform in SOUNDS recitals, showcasing their progress and receiving constructive feedback from both peers and professionals.
Led by Ivan Maceda, a Summa Cum Laude graduate of the National Autonomous University of Mexico and Master of Music in Performance recipient from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, the program offers a rare opportunity to study with a guitarist who has premiered works by leading composers and performed iconic pieces such as Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez. Ivan’s experience as a soloist, ensemble member, and orchestral performer ensures each student receives instruction informed by a deep understanding of musical artistry and performance excellence.
